Greenschist,
Biotite zone (Sample
Q)
The assemblage
is Chl + Ep + Act + Ab + Cal + Qtz + Spn.
The rocks is schistose and has a fine banding in
which layers of green chlorite and high relief
yellowish epidote alternate with lighter bands
consisting dominantly of albite with calcite and
fine green needles (almost indistinguishable at
this scale) of actinolite amphibole. The very high
relief mineral forming an elongate aggregate near
the centre of the field of view is sphene
(titanite). The opaque mineral (rectangles and
triangles) is probably pyrite.
Field of view
is 3.5 mm wide.
