Buchan region, andalusite zone (Sample 220)

Spotted cordierite schist.
Contains a large oval cordierite poikiloblast in the centre of the field of view, set in a fine-grained matrix of muscovite, biotite and quartz. Irregular andalusite poikiloblasts occur in micaceous selvages elsewhere in the rock. The bulk composition is marked "x" in the AFM diagram.

Field of view is 7 mm across.
